Hotspot Information and Troubleshooting

Audience: Staff, Students, Parents/Guardians

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to troubleshoot any issues with hotspots.

Summary: The Verizon Orbic hotspot is an affordable and portable 4G LTE device ideal for travel, light work, and connecting multiple devices.

Information

  • The only model of hotspot currently in circulation is the Verizon Orbic.

  • This device provides the student with unlimited data.

  • If a student is using anything other than this, it will need to be replaced.

  • Battery:

    • 3,000 mAh removable Li‑Ion — quoted usage ~12 hrs, standby ~24 hrs.

  • Display & Size:

    • 1.4″ LCD screen; compact profile (~4.4″ × 2.6″ × 0.7″; 4.2 oz).

  • Hardware:

    • Qualcomm MDM9207 chipset; 512 MB RAM + 256 MB flash; runs Linux 3.18.

  • Throttling & Speed:

    • LTE download up to 150 Mbps / upload 50 Mbps (typical).

Troubleshooting

 

General Troubleshooting

  • Ensure the hotspot is used in a location that allows for good reception.

    • Try moving the hotspot to a window, outside wall, or on an upper floor if you have one.

  • Remove and re-insert the battery.

  • Remove and re-insert the SIM card.

 

Webpages Not Loading

  1. Press the Menu button on the top of the hotspot several times until you get to Device Settings

  2. Press on the Power button on the front of the hotspot to open that menu

  3. Press the Menu button several times until Mobile Data is selected

  4. If the Mobile Data box is not checked, click on the Power button to check that box.

    1. Then press the Menu button several times until you’ve exited the menu

 

Finding the Wi-Fi Password

  1. Press the Menu button on the top of the hotspot several times until you get to 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi Info.

  2. Press on the Power button on the front of the hotspot to open that menu.

  3. The password of the Wi-Fi network will be displayed next to the Lock icon.

 

Factory Reset

Use the factory reset process when all other solutions have been exhausted.

  1. Remove the battery cover.

    1. Insert your fingers into the battery removal groove at the top edge of the battery cover then lift and remove the battery cover. Set the cover aside.

  1. With the device powered on, locate the Reset button.

  2. Press and hold the Reset button with your finger or use the tip of a pencil or pen.

    1. Hold down for approximately 5 seconds or until the display shows Resetting.

  1. Replace the battery cover.

    1. Ensure the notches align then press on the cover until it clicks into place and is flat across the entire bottom surface.
