Hotspot: Starter Guide

Audience: Staff, Students, Parents and Guardians

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of how to start up a district issued hotspot and connect it to a Chromebook.

Summary: Setting up a hotspot is a fairly straightforward process. It usually involves installing the battery, finding the Wi-Fi network information for the hotspot, and then using that to connect to a student’s Chromebook. The instructions below will guide users through this process.

Locating Wi-Fi Network Information and Password

1. Once the battery is charged, turn on the Hotspot.

2. Hold down the Power button until you get the Orbic and Verizon screen.

3. Once the Hotspot has completely booted up, press the Menu button on the top right of the device.

4. Keep pressing the Menu button until you get to either the 2.4 or 5 GHZ Wi-Fi info.

   1. Press the Power button to open the info for the selected network.

      1. The 2.4 GHZ network is slower but has a wider range.

      2. The 5 GHZ network. is faster but has a smaller range.

5. The wireless network name is displayed next to the Wi-Fi icon.

6. The password for the network is displayed next to the lock icon 🔒.

Connecting Hotspot to a Chromebook

1. On the Chromebook take your cursor down to the bottom right corner, where the time is displayed, and click to open the Status Tray.

2. Open the Wi-Fi options from this screen.

3. Select the Hotspot network name and type in the password.

4. Once you have entered the password, click Connect.
